2015 Oscar Predictions: The Calm Before ‘Unbroken’
One of the things I’m thankful for this year is a relatively pleasant Oscar season. Granted, it’s only Thanksgiving, and we haven’t yet gotten into the guilds and critics groups. We don’t yet know what awful narratives will be made up to drag down competing films. We don’t yet know who will win the second-annual “Feinberg Award” for worst Oscar season thinkpiece. (Can anyone top the award’s namesake’s incredulous attempt at analyzing the impact Dylan Farrow’s molestation allegations against Woody Allen would have on Cate Blanchett’s Oscar chances? Jeff Wells is leading after tweeting that situation in Ferguson should help Selma.)
All that said, we’re still in a holding pattern until the final film of the season lands. Unbroken might shake things up. It might not. I get to see it in a few days, which is super exciting. In the mean time, I’ve updated all six major Oscar categories. Selma is the big winner since my last update, and considering the relatively soft landings made by its fellow perceived contenders, it must be considered a threat to take home a lot of trophies.
